Winsor Whites U13 Chamberlayne Tournament Match Report

Winsor Whites were drawn in Group B to play matches against Rodway Rovers, Down Grange FC, CAFC Black, Wyvern Rangers Blue and BTC.

Winsor were up against it from the start, a long delay in getting proceedings underway due to an unfortunate leg injury in an earlier match from the previous tournament.  When matches did start they came in quick succession and at short notice so the lads had to be on their toes.  First game we started a little slow initially against BTC, all apart from Harry N who pounced superbly to slot in for 1-0, the first goal fired the lads up and they soon secured the first win of the day with the match ending 2-0.

Due to the delays the decision was made by Chamberlayne to play the 6 a side matches on full size pitches and this troubled us in the next game and we lost a narrow 1-0.

The following game against CAFC black was close, Winsor came out 1-0 winners thanks to a Bradley C turning superbly on the edge of the box and hit a shot on the spin, a sweet left drive low to the left hand corner of the goal, the keeper could only stand and watch.

Wyvern Rangers up next, with the score at 1-1, we lost it 2-1 with a heartbreaking last second strike from Wyvern securing them the win.  Winsor deserved more from that game, but with 10 minute matches, there is no time to make amends.

The rain by this point was lashing down, matches were abandoned halfway through while players, managers and parents took cover under the trees.  Great credit to the parents for keeping the spirits up, even though by this stage most were dreaming of a hot chocolate on the sofa at home!

Winsor Whites found themselves in the sub-cup semi-final against Rodway Rovers A.  The final was a fiercely contested encounter, huge credit to the lads, Stephen and Matt were urging them on sensing we could get something from the match.  The size of the opponents looked like some of them had just left school which daunted our lads, but as the final whistle blew the score stood at 1-1, resulting in a penalty shoot out!

We lost count how many penalties were taken, we think the score had reach 15 – 15, and with the lads supported each other superbly, after what seemed an eternity Rodway Rovers A claimed the victory, as we missed a shot, after some head scratching with the ref it was confirmed they had won, and we congratulated them, but it was by a whisker!

An eventful afternoon of football came to an end, the lads, manager, coaches and parents soaked through, bringing an official close to the competitive season.
